Diversifying perspectives in eating disorder care: enriching our lens on clinical practice, research and lived experiences

About this event:

Many times, individuals from underrepresented and underserved communities encounter barriers when accessing eating disorder care. These barriers may at times prevent individuals from getting timely and appropriate care, as well as contribute to feelings associated with exclusion, such as shame, regret, and despair. In this conference, we will discuss (1) what affirming care means across multiple contexts (e.g., weight/size, ethnic/religious, gender, and neurodiversity); (2) research on inclusive practices in eating disorder care; (3) recommendations for dietetic and mental health practice; and (4) perspectives from individuals with lived experiences. This conference is for a range of audiences, including clinicians, researchers, students/trainees, and individuals (and families) with lived experiences.
