Diversifying Perspectives in Eating Disorder Care

  • Waterloo-Wellington Eating Disorders Coalition ZOOM (map)

Diversifying perspectives in eating disorder care: enriching our lens on clinical practice, research and lived experiences

About this event:

Individuals from underrepresented and underserved communities often encounter barriers when accessing eating disorder care. These barriers may at times prevent individuals from getting timely and appropriate care, as well as contribute to feelings associated with exclusion, such as shame, regret, and despair.

In this conference, we will discuss

  1. What affirming care means across multiple contexts, including approaches for uprooting anti-fatness in our personal and professional relationships

  2. Research on inclusive practices in eating disorder care, such as practical and evidence-based strategies to support trauma-informed care for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and to empower neurodivergent people in their relationship with food and their bodies, and

  3. Recommendations for dietetic and mental health practice, considering eating disorders and muscle dysmorphia in male populations as well.

This conference is for a range of audiences, including clinicians, researchers, students/trainees, and individuals (and families) with lived experiences.

We hope to see you there!
